The information below is split by panel technology: VA, IPS, TN. Under each panel technology, monitor lists are split by manufacturers such as Samsung, AUO and LG.

VA

AUO VA Panels

AUO Panels is the current supplier of panels which will be used for the much awaited Acer X35 and Asus PG35VQ, which will both have a resolution of 3440×1440 running at 200Hz with G-Sync support and HDR1000. We’ve been hearing of an imminent release of these monitors from early 2018, however, the Acer X35 and the Asus PG35VQ both got HDR1000 certification in April 2019. Thus, we expect that mass production should start mid to late 2019 with supplies starting out late 2019 to early 2020. Expect pricing of these monitors to be in the region of $2500 and above. Some retailers have already starting listing these monitors for preorders, with prices ranging from $3000 to $3500. The retailers have confirmed that such prices are only a placeholders and that the price will change when the official prices are announced.

AUO Panels are also working on large “Big Format Gaming Displays” and “Larger Format Gaming Displays”. Expect 65-inch VA displays sporting 4K, 144Hz, HDR1000, 95% DCI-P3 and 384-zone to 512-zone full-array-local-dimming. Also expect smaller displays coming in at 43″, also with HDR1000 4K 144Hz and FALD. These displays are aimed for the living room and will also support AMD FreeSync 2.

Samsung VA Panels

Samsung C49CRG9
Samsung C49CRG9

Samsung has released the 49″ and 43″ monitors which were announced in Q3 2018: the Samsung 499P9H with 60Hz, the Samsung CRG9 with 120Hz, HDR 1000 and the Samsung C43J89.

The Samsung CHG9 successor, the Samsung CRG9, is Samsung’s latest and most popular flagship super ultra-wide curved monitor, having a 49″ screen size with a resolution of 5120×1440. Although the CHG9 was able to run at 144Hz, this update is only able to achieve a maximum of 120Hz. However, this monitor comes with HDR 1000 certification, has very good colour reproduction and supports FreeSync 2. Unfortunately, this montior does not have Full Array Local Dimming.

MSI will be using a Samsung display in its new Optix MPG341CQR and will the first ultra-wide panel having VA, 3440×1440 at 144Hz, which will be competing with LG’s current 34GK950F and 34GK950G. MSI has not specified whether the panel will be G-Sync or FreeSync 2 compatible.

AOC’s upcoming G2 Series monitors bring nothing ground breaking to the table. These monitors are clearly aimed for consumers with a budget due to the lackluster resolutions, the low brightness which these monitors have and the low refresh rates.
