    5 steps to get iCloud on Android – Quick Guide

    Anyone who has used an iOS device is aware of Apple’s restriction of its services being usable only on their own devices. As a result, Apple uses this technique in order to try to lock their user base to their products.

    If you are switching from an iOS device to an Android device, you might think that it is difficult to get your data from your iCloud account on your Android device, without having to export everything and moving to another serivce provider, such as Google Cloud.

    In this guide, I will be showing you how to gain access to your data found on your iCloud account on your Android device without having to export any data. We will be using the Sync for iCloud application suite on Android in order to access the iCloud data directly on your mobile or tablet running Android.

    Part 1: Go to the Google Play Store

    Grab your mobile phone or tablet running Android and open Google’s Play Store application.

    Part 2: Search for Sync for iCloud

    Once you have opened the Play Store, press on the search icon and search for ‘Sync for iCloud’. Once found, install the app.

    Part 3: Install Sync for iCloud Contacts and Sync for iCloud Mail

    If you want to get your iCloud contacts and your iCloud mail synced as well, install these applications too.

    Part 4: Open Sync for iCloud

    Once installed, open Sync for iCloud. The first thing you would want to do is to generate an app-specific password. This can be done by pressing on ‘Add Account’ and then pressing on ‘Generate App Specific Password’.

    You will be taken to Apple’s website in the in-app browser where you can generate the app-specific password. Make sure to copy the password.

    Part 5: Log in

    Go back to the Sync for iCloud log in screen and enter your iCloud username and paste the app-specific password.

    Press on the ‘Log in’ button to log in. Once logged in, select the calendars you want to sync. You can do the same process in Sync for iCloud Contacts to get your contacts, and in Sync for iCloud Mail to sync your mail.

    One of the problems of switching to Android from iOS is that it is difficult and cumbersome to migrate all of the files stored on iCloud. A particular case would be photos taken on an iOS device, which are then automatically uploaded to the iCloud Drive.

    Fortunately, it is possible to actually access all of your files stored on iCloud Drive, such as photos, from an Android device. The trick is to use Sync for iCloud‘s internal browser to access the iCloud website. Although this is not a very clean solution, its a solution which works and gets the job done.

    Steps

    1. Download Sync for iCloud from the Google Play Store.
    2. Open the app.
    3. Tap on ‘Open iCloud’.
    4. Log in to your iCloud account just as you would on your computer.

    The web browser is not part of Sync for iCloud’s main functionality. This means that support is not offered on this functionality and that this may work for some, but not for others.

    Apart from viewing iCloud files, the Sync for iCloud app also gives you the possibility of synchronizing all of your iCloud calendars natively on your Android device. The developer also gives access to other apps which also let you sync your iCloud contacts and emails to your Android device.

    The best part about these apps is that they are all free to use without any limitations. The only downside is that they contain a minimal amount of ads. However, these never proved to be distracting. If you don’t like ads, you can always make use of the in-app purchase to remove ads.

    A new release is currently being rolled out on the Google Play Store for Sync for iCloud Mail.

    This new release contains various bug fixes, most notably a bug where clicking on a link on an email. Clicking on a link in an email now redirects you to the default browser application on your device. As a result, you should now be able to view links in emails.

    Furthermore, other fixes include a new way of loading folders in your inbox and a progress bar to show you the loading progress of emails.

    Sync for iCloud and Sync for iCloud Contacts are very flexible applications that offer many synchronisation possibilities to users, allowing for multiple iCloud accounts to be synced with any Android device for free.

    We have gone through great lengths to offer the best possible user experience when using our applications.     Viewing and downloading of iCloud pictures on Android can be carried out through the application’s internet browser. This can be done by opening the internet browser from the home screen, and logging in with your iCloud account as you would do on a computer. Once logged in, press the Photos button to view and download photos.

    I am a long time iOS user. Now, I wish to move over to Android. At the moment, I heavily rely on Apple’s services such as Apple iCloud. I have all my contacts, calendars, email and photos stored on my iCloud drive. Would I be able to access them from Android?

    Answer

    Ever since Android was introduced by Google, this question has always been asked time-and-time again. Users of iOS who rely on Apple’s iCloud services would be reluctant to move to Android due to the fact that Apple does not support iCloud services natively on Android.

    While to this date, it is not possible to sync your iCloud photos to Android, it is possible to keep all of your contacts, calendars and emails on iCloud while using Android. This can be done by installing three great apps on your Android device: Sync for iCloud, Sync for iCloud Contacts and Sync for iCloud Mail. These three Android applications make it very easy to log in with your iCloud username and password, and synchronise your contacts, calendars and emails.

    This Android application allows you to log in with your iCloud username and password and get all of your calendar events synchronised in your Android’s default calendar application. When you add a new event on your iCloud account, this will be shown on your Android’s calendar. When you add a new event on your Android’s calendar, it will be shown in your iCloud account. You are also able to download events from shared calendars you have with your friends, family or work colleagues.

    Just like Sync for iCloud, Sync for iCloud Contacts allows you to log in with your iCloud username and password and get all of your contacts synchronised in your Android’s default contacts application. When you add a new contact in your Android’s contacts application, that contact will be copied over to your iCloud account. Likewise, any new contact created in iCloud will be copied over to your Android’s contacts application.

    You can send, receive and manage all of your iCloud emails with Sync for iCloud Mail. Setup is very easy to do and only takes a few steps. Just enter your iCloud username and password, and your email account will be downloaded to your Android device. When sending emails, you can also attach files such as images, PDF documents and any other type of file.

     

    All of these applications work in the background. Any changes are automatically detected and copied over between your iCloud account and your Android device. This is all done through very secure connections directly between Apple’s iCloud servers and your Android device. This means that no one will be able to get hold of your connection details.

    This high level of security makes these applications the ideal solution for your business, with very reliable synchronisation, secure connection and ease of use. The applications are all FREE to download with no limitations. Thus, if you have a small or medium sized business, you can scale the use of these applications with no cost at all for your company.

    If you are a user of one of our iCloud syncing apps, you might have noticed that the apps have stopped syncing after June 15. This behaviour is the result of an important change by Apple.

    An email was sent by Apple Support stating that starting from June 15, all applications that access data on iCloud will need to connect via an app-specific password.

    What is an app specific password?

    An app specific password is a password which is generated after enabling two factor authentication. You can generate a new password for each different application that you use. The app specific password is entered instead of your usual password when logging in to Sync for iCloud, Sync for iCloud Contacts, and Sync for iCloud Mail.

    What is two factor authentication?

    When using this type of authentication, an extra layer of security is added to your account. When trying to log in with your usual password, you will need to verify your log in by means of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

    Sync for iCloud, Sync for iCloud Contacts, and Sync for iCloud Mail do not support logging with your usual password. This means that you will need to generate an app specific password from your iCloud control panel to be able to log in.

    I have not enable two-factor authentication.

    You will need to enable two factor authentication in order to be able to log in to your iCloud account from our apps, or from other third party apps. Newly created iCloud accounts should have two factor authentication automatically enabled.

    When using Sync for iCloud, Sync for iCloud Contacts, and Sync for iCloud Mail, you can access instructions on how to generate an app specific password, and how to enable two factor authentication by clicking on the ‘Instructions’ button on the log in form. These instructions will guide you step by step.

    The steps below will show you how to check whether you have Apple’s latest authentication method enabled, and how to generate an app specific password. Each time you change your password, you must create a new app specific password.

    1. Open your browser and go to icloud.com. Log in with your iCloud account.

    2. Click on the ‘Settings’ icon.

    3. Click on ‘Manage’ Apple ID.

    4. Click on ‘Generate Password…’

    5. Enter a name for the app-specific password and click ‘Create’.

    6. Open Sync for iCloud/Sync for iCloud Calendar/Sync for iCloud Mail on your Android device and enter the password given by iCloud.
